The Advertiser Effect or Finally!!!
Tuesday, January 12th, 2010
Has anybody else noticed the massive amount of medication ads in print and television? I know it’s in every magazine I read and during almost every commercial break I watch. Evidently, it’s been successful as total U.S. prescription sales reached $286.5 billion in 2007. I’m not totally knocking pharmaceutical companies. Several breakthrough drugs have improved patient care and saved lives. However, when news that the most commonly prescribed category of drugs, antidepressants, are no more helpful than a placebo for mild to moderate depression an alarm should sound somewhere. It makes sense that the skyrocketing of antidepressant prescriptions is directly proportional to the amount of advertisements. The effect of these advertisements is profit for companies and decreased care to patients who often have to deal with adverse side effects. As simple as it sounds, a better alternative to medication is often exercise for slight bouts of depression. Thoughts?

It’s been a long wait but finally Wii Active has joined my workout regimen. I stumbled upon a sale with a price tag of $39.48! It was originally about $60.00, so I figured why not give it a shot. Well I’m glad I did. Currently I am doing the 30 Personal Challenge. It sets up a workout program for me and let’s me choose the intensity of my workout sessions. The workouts are a ton of fun and I’ve really worked up a sweat(and a sore body). I’m pretty fortunate to have a former athlete for a husband…that means free personal training, but this gives him some time off and allows me to play video games while getting fit. Wii Active has the wifey seal of approval written all over it. I totally recommend it.
Thanks for the read, have a super day. Ciao
