What We All Need (or) A Lovely Visit

What We All Need or A Lovely Visit

Over my glorious two week break I read the book, “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People,” written by Stephen Covey. I liked it so much I picked up one of Covey’s sequels, “The 8th Habit,” from the local library, but I got bored with the book around page 70 and never finished. One of the many pieces of inspiration I received from “The 7 Habits” is the use of a personal mission statement.

I’m currently working on my own right now and recommend it as something we all need. According to Covey, it allows one to begin with the end in mind (which is his 2nd habit to living an effective life). Having a personal mission statement is analogous to a marathon runner knowing where the finish line is located. Without it it’s easy to run your life in circles and not make it anywhere. It’s impossible to do everything at once, but I believe it is possible to accomplish everything that is truly important to you.

What does it mean to be family? Is it DNA, self made, or inherited?  Well for me it’s a combination of all three.  I enjoyed two of the three types on Sunday, my DNA and inherited family.  My in-laws came for an afternoon visit and we all had a nice time.  The weather outside was frightfully cold and snowy, but they drove three hours to come hang out.  They came bearing gifts i.e. a punching bag to hang in our basement, and yummy food.  The highlight of my afternoon came when The Mr.’s mom and Princess Layla made berry tarts.  The two baked up a “delicious dessert” as Layla likes to call them.  The tarts were filled with jelly, raspberries, and blueberries.  It was the perfect Sunday treat.

I realized that afternoon that Princess Layla and I need to take advantage of more opportunities to do more baking.  Maybe she and I could bake tarts or cookies on Sunday afternoons.  I feel a new tradition coming on…I’ll keep you posted.  Thanks for reading.  Visit again tomorrow!

P.S. The in-laws made it safely back home.  So glad they came.  I can’t wait to share some great stories about the new punching bag.  Along with roller skates I think I’ll be purchasing some pink boxing gloves this week!
