I believe the most basic human right is the right to serve others. Serving others is what is best about being human. A man came into the clinic today in the midst of an asthmatic exacerbation. (Note: some of the details of this story have been changed.) He was in immediate distress and could barely talk due to his labored breathing. From his few words we surmised that he ran out of his inhaler medication. Fortunately, we had just the thing he needed and a few minutes later he was cracking jokes and we were laughing. The man had recently lost his job. Without our clinic he would have continued to suffer through his asthmatic attack or been forced into an ER trip that would have resulted in hundreds of dollars in fees for something that was easily corrected.
This is just one small example of serving others. It happens countless other ways through cooking food, cleaning up the community, tutoring a child, or visiting someone in need. I can only imagine how terrible it must be to not serve others either because a person is bound, broken, or sick or just because they choose not to.
I spent Saturday afternoon doing something pretty out of the ordinary. It isn’t too often I put on a pair of roller skates and enjoy going round in circles. I even did so while listening to the latest horrific hip-hop music blaring from the speakers and still had a blast. Roller skating is a great workout. It doesn’t seem like it until you take off the skates. My thighs, calves, and butt are feeling it a few hours later. I will be purchasing my own skates Monday. I kind of have an issue wearing old worn stakes…don’t judge me I just think it’s kind of icky. I threw away a pair of my favorite socks after my roller session and with my own skates my favorite socks will be spared.
Monday I’ll also be ordering The Mr. a pair of skates. I think a roller skating date will be fun amongst all the studying we’ll be doing this upcoming semester. Simply, a wifey has to have versatile ways to have fun and stay fit. Roller skating is a must add. I wonder how many other women agree….feedback is welcome. Thanks for reading.
I haven’t roller skated in years! I remember my brother and I took lessons. I loved it! I watched Roll Bounce when it came out…it didn’t inspire me to skate more, but it did make me laugh at how poorly they picked Lil Bow Wow’s double…he was like a 40 year old big man. It was funny though! Hope this spring is made for lots of skating!
