As Thanksgiving draws close, I encourage you to take time to consider the 1 billion people in the world who face starvation. This information is not meant to be depressing and discourage you from enjoying a great holiday meal. Rather, it is meant to inspire you since in this Internet age we are actually able to do something to fight world hunger. Here is a simple plan to get it done. It’s called Five 2 Fight Hunger:
1. Take 5 minutes to get educated. Visit the United Nation’s World Food Programme’s website.
2. Give 5 dollars right now. If you’re fortunate enough to have Internet and a bank account there’s no excuse.
3. Commit 5 dollars every 5th of the month starting December 5, 2009.
4. Tell 5 friends. This is easy. Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, or have an old fashioned conversation.
5. High 5 others to encourage the cause. A fist bump or wave may be better during the flu season.
Social networking is here for a reason. Let’s use it to join with the other billion Internet users as we respond to the call of action in finally eradicating world hunger.

I felt sick after Pierce showed me a YouTube WFP video. Why? Well five minutes prior I had just walked into our kitchen perused the pantry and enjoy my evening snack. I did this without a thought about anything. I was simply exercising my right to eat. But wait…this is everyone’s right. Pierce showed me that there are A BILLION people in the world starving right now.
The UN has launched a campaign: A Billion For A Billion. Essentially, if all the internet users donate $1 per week hunger could be wiped out. Pierce decided we need our own plan to support this cause. Five2Fight. Follow the steps he has listed on the left and give $5 per month to support the cause. Together we can fight for the right of everyone in the world to eat. This is going to be big and I’m in. Get involved!
