Make The Switch (or) Kick The Habit

Make The Switch or Kick The Habit

Hi, my name is Pierce and I have been cable free for six months. I now consider myself a fully recovered television junkie. My recovery was more necessity than desire as my wife and I pulled the plug to save some monthly cash. The switch was difficult at first, but I’ve adapted. No cable means no ESPN, but with high speed internet access I’ve been able to catch the highlights I need. There are a few games I’ve missed, but I honestly use my time better now not watching three hour games on the regular. Also, I can always catch the really big ones with the antenna. Getting rid of cable has helped make my life more able.

Cable. It’s a luxury that doesn’t exist in our house. Pierce and I made the decision to save some cash and cancel our ridiculously expensive service six months ago. Now $700 later, I’m so proud we kicked the habit. We’ve told people that we no longer have cable in various conversations and some how there is sometimes a reaction of pity or shock. However, we are the ones laughing each time we don’t write the check to the cable company and log onto hulu.com or rent a Redbox movie instead.

Come on!

It's fun. And free.

I agree totally with you both but we have been unable to discharge ourselves from the cable. Mostly because we don’t pay for it. I have definitely been trying to spend a lot less time in front of the TV but I am looking forward to the day we get rid of our cable. Time seems to be slipping away and every time I spend a significant amount of time in front of the tube, I feel like I’ve wasted a portion of my life. You guys are definitely an encouragement that we don’t need cable!

….But it’s just so hard! I do think getting rid of cable is something that we NEED to do though. I’ll miss the foodnetwork. :(
