We didn’t have a specific Weekend Challenge, but wifey and I spend time together at a co-ed baby shower for our close friends a.k.a. The Super Couple. This was a first time experience for me, and I was a little flustered starting the event off with a diaper changing contest. Not one to back down from a contest, I anchored a blow-out victory of wiping, powdering, and diapering up a plastic baby.
Towards the end of the afternoon, it was time to get down to the formal business of blessing the newly expectant couple with gifts but then somebody had to mention playing football (it may or may not have been me…I plead the 5th). Within 60 seconds, teams had already been established for a 3 on 3 game and kickoff was underway. Even at a baby shower, boys will be boys.
After not being so sure about the whole co-ed baby shower thing, I highly recommend it. It was fun for everybody as it brought together many different couples to celebrate something that involves men and women.

Baby showers never have been my favorite thing to attend. Something about the horrific games and stale baby gab doesn’t float my boat. I hadn’t attend one in a while so when Pierce and I received an invitation to a co-ed shower from close friends we didn’t really know what to think. We bought a great gift and went with open minds.
The co-ed baby shower should be the new standard in showers. When couples are in a loving marriage why not share the joys of celebrating together. Nothing about the shower we attended was stale or fluffy. It was like a party in the park celebrating parenthood. We played games, ate great food (including vegetarian friendly items!), and met a lot of fantastic couples. After a competitive game of bocce ball the husbands and wives drifted apart for football and conversations.
I had a great time at our first co-ed baby shower. I’m so happy for our friends. Now the fun part is finding out the sex of the baby. I’m guessing a boy as I think they are destined to have a little hooper in training.
It is exciting when married couples get together and have fun good clean fun. It is also nice that the invitation to the shower was addressed to the both of you. I think that more men would attend baby showers if they were invited.
