• Weekend Challenge Review•

Our Weekend Challenge was to hit the gym over the Labor Day weekend to maintain our health. Also, it was my goal to turn the weekend barbeque (i.e. my father-in-law’s sensational brisket straight from the smoker) into muscle instead of letting it settle into adipose tissue (a.k.a. fat – although some extra fat might be a life saver). I hit the weights hard on Sunday to accomplish my goal. As you can see from the above picture, I’m currently obsessed with kettleball exercises.
Fitness wise, I’m not where I want to be right now, but I know where I want to go. I have no immediate intentions of joining the armed services, but I respect the men and women who do for many reasons. One reason (and certainly not the top which would be serving the country on the frontlines) is the level of fitness that they attain through their training. I recently discovered a perfect score for the U.S. Marine Corps Physical Fitness Test is 20 pull-ups, 100 crunches in 2 minutes, and completing the 3 mile run in 18 minutes or less. If I tried today I’d have no chance of making it but I’m going to give it a shot in 4 weeks. I’ll let you know how it goes.

One out of three isn’t too shabby. This three day weekend was filled with family visiting Omaha and homework. In balancing the two the Weekend Challenge suffered. Nevertheless, the one day I went to the gym was like entering cardio paradise. My universities’ gym is fantastic! It’s brand new, great equipment, and floor to ceiling windows.
Sunday afternoon was the day of our workout. After a quick warm up I started out on the treadmill with a high incline and a steady speed. After, I found a new piece of equipment that is now my favorite. It’s called the TSX by True and it features a Mix 3 setting. It’s an amazing totally body workout! This Weekend Challenge inspired me to start my own personal 14 day challenge. My goal is to hit the gym early and may even attempt a few two-a-days. Can I make it? The answer in two weeks.
