Friendly Competition (or) Winning Is Soooo Everything

Friendly Competition or Winning Is Soooo Everything
Being married allows as many opportunities to compete as you and your spouse allow. For example, a husband and wife can compete on the first person to get out of bed in the morning (loser has to make the bed) or who can hold their breath the longest (my wife is such a cheater, next time I swear we’re holding each others noses – oops I didn’t mean to admit we really do these things!).

Usually, when my wife and I compete it is completely good natured. There are a few games where the competition gets a little heated. The main two games are Wii and Scrabble. The problem with these games is that I dominate her in Wii, and it hurts me to admit, but she dominates me in Scrabble. We need to find a game that is more equal. I think I know what it is. My wife thinks she is an amazing dart player (she actually is pretty good). We haven’t had many head-to-head match-ups, but I think we may need to start a rivalry.

Our friendly competitions have been really good for our marriage. It allows us to have fun together and take some time to not think about things that can really wait until tomorrow. Have friendly competitions been good to your marriage? If so, what are your favorite competitions? Thoughts…

I enjoy friendly good-spirited competition. Possibly women agree that competition is a healthy endeavor and makes “Jill less of a dull girl.” The competitions where I push myself the hardest are with none other than my husband. Something inside me always gives 120% rather than the usual 100%.

When the weather is nice my husband and I frequently go for walks. A nice brisk 30-minute walk is the planned routine. However, no more than 5 to 10 minutes into the walk I am huffing, puffing, and drenched in sweat. The reason is because this ‘walk’ typically transforms into a full blown street race!

I laugh when I imagine what we might look like to a couple sitting on their porch. From a distance they see a lovely couple holding hands briskly strolling and exchanging words. They have no clue that the words being exchanged are, “You’re on mister!” or “You’re going down!” followed by robust laughter. Then out of nowhere the observing couple sees us sprinting as if running from a fire for no apparent reason. I have yet to win any of these street races but secretly I’m training. He ought to watch out because I’m coming for the prize!

Do you and your spouse have silly good-spirited competitions? Inside are you just waiting for the victory? Whether your competition is board games, video games, sports, or whatever, I’m curious to know if I’m not solo. Feedback…

Come on!

It's fun. And free.

Well let me just tell you. . . My husband and I love to play games with each other or with the children as a family, but I try to keep a secret as to what game we are going to play until the last minute. Why? Because my husband is the biggest cheater ever! For instance, if Monopoly is the game of choice and he finds out to soon, you can bet he is going to slip a few of the largest denominations in his pocket before the game starts. Cheater!
